History of Community Friends Church

In the Spring of 1979 mid-week Bible Study and Prayer Meeting began in a local home in Carthage NC with the Rev. Winford Clifton from Bethel Freinds graciously giving of his time.  In the early 80's Sunday services began in a nearby log cabin.  As Community Friends continued to grow, a larger facility was needed.  In March, 1982, we moved to our current location.

On July 21, 1991 , a Special Service was held to officially commemorate Community Friends as an established Friends Meeting.

                                                                                                       Organization

The Quaker system is very simple.  The local group is called a meeting, rather than a church.  The gathering for worship is called a meeting for worship, not only because the people meet together, but also because they meet with God.  A meeting is held once a month (called monthly meeting) with the principal officer, a clerk, who heads the meeting for business.  The whole group seeks to find the will of God in a spirit of worship.  The clerk does not take a vote but seeks to find unity of mind and heart upon which the group can take action.  If there is disunity, action is delayed until harmony can emerge.
In most worship services there is a period of silent or open worship, and individuals are urged to participate as they may feel led.  Silence in itself is not worship; rather it is the opportunity  to worship, to pray, to seek, to listen and to commune with God.

Finally, my brethren , be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.  Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  For we wrestle not against  flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
